Admission
Admission is based on an undergraduate record (including coursework, experience, and grades), a minimum of two letters of recommendation, a CV/resume, and a statement of purpose. Applicants for the MS degree in Genetics and Genomics undergo a holistic evaluation by the MS Admissions Committee. In addition to the overall academic achievement (GPA), the committee will consider factors including, but not limited to, the rigor and relevance of completed coursework (courses in the fields of Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Biomedical Informatics, or similar areas are highly recommended), awards, leadership experience, faculty references, and scientific maturity. Applications must be submitted by February 15. Early application is highly recommended.
Test scores
Official Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores are NOT required for applicants to the Genetics and Genomics MS Program.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores are required from applicants whose native language is not English, unless those applicants completed all four years of a baccalaureate degree in the United States. TOEFL scores should be sent directly from the testing service to Texas A&M University (Code 6003) and should be from a test date within the last two years.
Instructions for the Statement of Purpose:
Describe your educational and scientific qualifications for the MS Program, such as research experience, scientific engagement, or life experiences that contributed to your professional development, and how these experiences have shaped you as a scientist. Please also include a discussion of (1) your career goals, (2) the knowledge, skills, and experience you hope to get if admitted to this MS Program, and (3) how your educational goals relate to your professional aspirations (2 pages maximum).
Applicants with unique experiences or circumstances are encouraged to describe those in their statement of purpose.
