When and how did you realize that you wanted to study Genetics & Genomics?
During my junior and senior years of undergrad, I worked in a fisheries genomics lab at TAMUG, where I genetically identified larval tuna from the Gulf of Mexico using HRMA. That experience ignited my passion for genetics and genomics and made me realize I wanted to work in this field for the rest of my life!
Why did you choose the Genetics & Genomics Ph.D. program at A&M?
I love being an Aggie! When I visited College Station to interview with the GENE program, I could tell that the students genuinely enjoyed being graduate students here. I also saw how dedicated the faculty are to student success and how strong the sense of community is among the students.
If you were free to choose anything, what research question/topic would you like to address for your graduate studies?
I am interested in exploring the genetic mechanisms of cancer as well as developing targeted therapies.
Fun Facts:
- What would be your dream job after graduation from the program?
After completing my Ph.D., I would like to go into academia and become a professor at a research university.
- Do you have any pets? If so, please tell us about them.
I am a mother of two cats, Misty and Juniper. Misty is a three year old tabby and Juniper is one year old tortoiseshell. Misty and Juniper love to sunbathe in their cat tree, nap, and watch birds.
