When and how did you realize that you wanted to study Genetics & Genomics?

My first internship, IQBIO REU, exposed me essentially to Bioinformatics applied to genetics. This experience left me wanting to know more about these two fields combined and the rest is history.

Why did you choose the Genetics & Genomics Ph.D. program at A&M?

I already knew about the program since I was an undergraduate due to the circulating flyers, nevertheless it was all the BICB certificate, resources and cores A&M offered that really lured me in.

If you were free to choose anything, what research question/topic would you like to address for your graduate studies?

I would like to research underlying causes of obesity/metabolic diseases in underserved communities using animal models to understand how we can help them.

Fun Facts:

Do you have any hidden talents?

As a creative person I will try to replicate anything I see on Pinterest (also known as DIY syndrome), especially nail art designs.

Do you have any pets? If so, please tell us about them.

Luca, my red dachshund, is named after the “Last Universal Common Ancestor”.  He was the support animal in the executive boards of my extracurriculars and will be my companion during this PhD journey.
