When and how did you realize that you wanted to study Genetics?

I first became interested in studying Genetics through my involvement with the Special Olympics, an organization I started volunteering with in middle school. Conversations with parents and medical staff introduced me to genetic diseases and developing genetic therapies. I have pursued Genetics ever since.

Why did you choose the Genetics PhD program at A&M?

A few of my professors at Clemson graduated from this program, and they are incredibly talented researchers. Their mentorship and contributions to the field heavily influenced my decision. Furthermore, the atmosphere at Texas A&M reminds me of what I love about Clemson – It’s a big school in a small town with a whole lot of school spirit!

If you were free to choose anything, what research question/topic would you like to address for your graduate studies?

I am really interested in studying how genes and metabolic pathways can be manipulated early in development to prevent or reduce symptoms of syndromic disorders and diseases.
