When and how did you realize that you wanted to study Genetics & Genomics?
I have been interested in the industrial applications of genetic engineering since my undergraduate research in synthetic biology, but it was while I was working in the biotech industry and constantly struggling to recognize the effects certain genetic edits had that made me realize I needed more education if I was to be a more effective biologist. Expertise in genetics and genomics would set me up to recognize how different genes interact with each other and give me the computational skills needed to analyze these effects.
Why did you choose the Genetics & Genomics Ph.D. program at A&M?
I knew I had to come here after my on-site interviews and tour. During these I realized this school is teeming with resources for researchers and boasts a really positive learning culture, which I think will be extremely important to do productive work.
If you were free to choose anything, what research question/topic would you like to address for your graduate studies?
I am fascinated by Aspergilli in industrial applications and would love to investigate ways to mitigate evolutionary escape with engineered Aspergilli.
