When and how did you realize that you wanted to study Genetics & Genomics?
Growing up in Saudi, many individuals in my community suffered from hematological malignancies like lymphocytic leukemias, as well as constitutional abnormalities like Down Syndrome and Autism Spectrum Disorder. The burning curiosity as to why there are such varied phenotypic outcomes to genotypic variants and how the timing of those genotypic variants affects individuals has led me to pursue further studies.
Why did you choose the Genetics & Genomics Ph.D. program at A&M?
The welcoming environment fostered by the graduate students and staff as well as broad scope of research offered attracted me to the program.
If you were free to choose anything, what research question/topic would you like to address for your graduate studies?
Whether an inflammatory bone marrow microenvironment is involved in the manifestation of hematological malignancies, and if so what genetic/molecular pathways are responsible.
Fun Facts:
What would be your dream job after graduation from the program?
Clinical Laboratory Director or Biotechnology consulting.
Favorite place you have traveled to.
Either Lake Geneva, Switzerland or Vancouver, Canada.
