When and how did you realize that you wanted to study Genetics & Genomics?

I have studied biotechnology, immunology, biochemistry, molecular biology and molecular genetics in my BS and MS. Out of all the subjects, molecular genetics and molecular biology attracted me a lot. Studying Molecular Genetics in my MS made me realize that I want to explore genetics in the future, especially in humans to understand disease pathogenesis better and come up with potential therapeutic strategies.

Why did you choose the Genetics & Genomics Ph.D. program at A&M?

I explored a lot of programs at various universities but after meeting everyone at the recruitment event at A&M, I felt that this is the place where I want to be for the next 4-5 years of my life. I felt a sense of assurance in terms of mentorship, support and guidance. Moreover, I believe that after graduating from A&M with Ph.D. Genetics I will be able to compete in today’s highly competitive job market and/or for academic positions.

If you were free to choose anything, what research question/topic would you like to address for your graduate studies?

I am interested in working on research topics in the medical field. If given a chance I would choose to work on a disease or injury such as traumatic brain injury, breast cancer, congenital diseases, microbiota disbalance, and diabetes.

Who was your famous role model growing up?

My role model has always been my mother. I have seen her struggling but still smiling and achieving her dreams with dedication and hard work.

What would be your dream job after graduation from the program?

My dream job after graduation would be to work as a scientist in a decent pharmaceutical company.

Favorite place you have traveled to.

My favorite place that I have traveled to is Disney World, Orlando, FL. Just being there is so much fun, and it gives me an adrenaline rush.
