We have the pleasure of hosting Dr. Marianna Naum!
She will present: “The evolution of a laboratory scientist beyond academia”
Dr. Marianna Naum is an evolutionary microbiologist passionate about providing U.S. consumers who look to their government for sound advice on leading healthier lives easy access to clear information rooted in science. Dr. Naum is the current Acting Director of the Communications and Public Engagement Staff at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, leading communications and engagement efforts to help advance human food priorities. Before September 2023, Dr. Naum was the team lead for the Strategic Communications Team, focusing her efforts on written communications and media relations. Dr. Naum got her start in communications, working on food additive and contaminant issues, and joined the FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition as a post-doctoral fellow working on the evolutionary relatedness of Salmonella Enteritidis lineages. Dr. Mariana Naum earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts in Classical Studies from Loyola University Chicago in 1999. She earned a Master of Science in biology from Loyola University Chicago. She matriculated to graduate school at the University of Illinois in Chicago, earning a Ph. D in evolutionary microbiology.
