Education:

  1. B.S., Biology & Industrial Microbiology, University of Puerto Rico, May 2013

Biography:

Entered program in 2013

Research Project:

Identify and characterize small regulatory RNA's that regulate virulence factors of the causative agent of Lyme disease the spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi.

Broader Impacts of Research Project:

The causative agent of Lyme disease the spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi has a segmented genome with a linear chromosome and can have more than twenty linear and circular plasmids. Some of this plasmids are not lost between passages but essential genes have not been found. We believe that small regulatory RNA's can be that reason why this plasmids are not lost and are important for the bacteria in the host.
