Courtney Caster

Advisor: Dr. Paul Hardin

Department of Biology

Education:

  1. B.S., Biomedical Science, Texas A&M University, May 2011

Biography:

Entered the program in 2013

Research Projects:

Project #1: Determine how the clock controls GPRK2 in the antennae and how GPRK2 regulates OR localization and thus rhythms in OSN signaling.

Project #2: Determine whether a mammalian-like clock from other insects can drive oscillator function in Drosophila.

Broader Impacts of Research Projects:

Project #1: Discover how the circadian clock controls sensory physiology as a model for controlling physiology.

Project #2: Defining the key difference between mammalian-like and Drosophila clock mechanisms will reveal functional domains of core clock proteins, how these proteins changed over time, and how transcriptional outputs are affected by changes in the core clock mechanism.
